Mortal Kombat X has spawned a new weekly digital comic introducing new roster additions.
The Mortal Kombat X comic will release in print form on January 14.
Writer Shawn Kittelsen, who has played every Mortal Kombat game, worked with NetherRealm on Injustice: Gods Among Us during his time as a creative executive at DC, and was invited to write the comic having moved on.
The comic is set several years before Mortal Kombat X, which is itself set 25 years after 2011’s Mortal Kombat. The first issue kicks off with Scorpion, one of the best known faces of the franchise, and Kenshi. Later issues will feature new characters D’vorah, Kotal Khan and Cassie Cage, among others.
“Just because you see a character in the comic, that doesn’t guarantee you’ll see them in the game,” Kittelsen said.
“The end of MK 2011 had some major ramifications for this universe, and even 15 years later, those events weigh heavily on our characters.”
Mortal Kombat X is coming to PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in April.
