The Vita has loads of upcoming games – Papers Please, Broforce, Starbound

The Vita was almost totally absent from Sony’s gamescom 2014 presentation, but there’s a huge pile of games on or coming to the portable console.

In the wake of Sony’s gamescom 2014 conference, a bunch of disgruntled Vita owners took to Twitter and Facebook to shout abuse at Shahid Ahmad, Sony’s Vita and indie champion.

The summary of their complaints is basically that the Vita has no games (and also, because this is the Internet and people are awful, that everyone at Sony should suffer terrible calamities and are a bunch of [insert favourite slur here]).

Ahmad took this in his stride, and responded by tweeting out, off the top of his head, a list of recent and upcoming Vita games.

Poor old Vita, eh? Languishing away there on its enormous pile of games. Such sympathy.

One thing that really bugs me when it comes to Vita hate is when people talk about “ports” or “indie spam”, snobbily writing off experiences treasured by millions because it’s what, not Call of Duty? We had a Call of Duty on Vita, remember? And it was rubbish. And writing cross-platform releases of as “ports” means we should forget about the vast majority of the PS3 and Xbox 360’s catalogues, too.

It sounds like Ahmad’s also sick of that line of argument.

It’s also frustrating that some members of our community took to social networks to abuse Sony staff (and journalists, and each other) rather than just airing their concerns calmly. Ahmad takes this much more politely than I would.

In any case, the fact that Sony focused on the PS during one conference doesn’t mean it’s given up on its other platforms. After all, how many times was the PS3 mentioned? There’s still plenty of support for the older console, even if there’s no place for it in Sony’s messaging right now.
