Stephane D’Astous, best known as the man who walked away from Thief with plenty to say about Square Enix’s management, has signed on with Montreal developer Hibernum Créations.

Polygon reports D’Astous has been hired as chief operating officer.

Hibernum is best known for Calling All Mixels, a collaboration with Cartoon Network. It tends to take on contract work for casual games.

D’Astous was director of Operations at Ubisoft Montreal before leaving to become general manager and a founding member of Eidos Montreal, overseeing Deus Ex: Human revolution and much of Thief’s development time before departing after six years.

The veteran developer gave a rousing critique of Square Enix, saying “lack of leadership, lack of courage and the lack of communication” prevented him doing his job properly.
