Starbound gets new game modes and weapons

Space sandbox game Starbound will receive a patch next week that adds several new features, and fixes a lot of old ones.

The features were detailed on a blog post on the game’s website. For those who find planet-hopping not dangerous enough, a new permadeath game mode will add a new edge to proceedings. For the slightly-less-adventurous extraterrestrials, there’s also a Minecraftian, drop-everything-you’re-carrying-when-you-die mode.

There’s a host of new weapons, including revolvers, pulse rifles, hand grenades, and Florian needlers. You’ll get more of a chance to try these out too, with more random encounters, and you can look good doing so, with new hats. Because people seem to enjoy putting hats on game characters.

And of course, a lot of persistent bugs have been squashed, including several game crashes and memory leaks.

Thanks, Polygon.
