Killer Instinct reboot was Microsoft's idea, says dev

Killer Instinct developer Double Helix said it jumped at the chance to work on the franchise, but it was Microsoft who initiated the reboot.

"The idea to bring it back came originally from Microsoft," design director David Verfaillie told Siliconera of the reboot.

"They had new hardware coming soon and were like, ‘the time is now, we gotta bring this back’. So we heard about the chance and jumped at it."

The developer put together "an awesome prototype" in order to secure the job from Microsoft, he added.

Double Helix's previous efforts include Front Mission Evolved. Killer Instinct is coming to Xbox One but has not been dated. It's free to play.
