Mythic to cull career balancing in upcoming Warhammer patch

Planned career changes for Warhammer Online will not be included in patch 1.3, producer Adam Gershowitz has confirmed.
Some of the proposed balancing changes have proven a little controversial, so Mythic will instead focus on the Land of the Dead zone.
Apparently, there was an outcry in the community over changes specifically aimed at stat factors and healing effectiveness for the Warrior Priest and Disciple careers.
Plans to re-open character balance testing after the patch’s release will be implemented so the developers can work with the community on the changes.

Land of the Dead screens released for Warhammer Online

New shots of the upcoming Land of the Dead expansion for Warhammer Online popped up on Eurogamer this morning.
There are 30 posted, and each depict a very Egyptian-like setting. Actually it would be considered Egypt if you could ride scary looking boar mounts and you were an orc.
Somehow we don’t think Semerkhet or any of the other Pharaohs rode one of those, which is a shame really.
At any rate, for those who play the MMO, stage one of public test 1.3 is live with the first segment focusing on combat and career changes, along with the mechanic for gathering resources and unlocking the Tomb of Kings zones. To get in on the test, the devs posted a “how to” page here.
Land of the Dead will not be made available until later in the year, and while you can unlock it and take a gander at it, you can’t traverse through it yet. Sorry
Screens are through the link.

Blue Oyster Cult pens WAR theme song, Kiss My Axe (While I Drink My Beer)

The Warhammer Online development team has collaborated with Eric Bloom and Richie Castellano of Blue Öyster Cult on a theme song for the game’s new Dwarf Slayer career.
Entitled Kiss My Axe (While I Drink My Beer), the track celebrates the new character path, all thanks to lead-singer Eric Bloom being a long-time Warhammer fan.
“I’d heard a previous song written and performed by members of the WAR team, and thought they were quite good for a ‘garage band’ of game developers,” said Bloom.
“I was very glad to hear from Mythic who invited me down to work on the song. I was impressed by the dedication of the developers to make WAR both a success and fun to play, something that, in my opinion, is missing from many other MMOs.”
Senior WAR creative designer Paul Barnett added: “If this song doesn’t get you fired up to shave your hair into a mohawk, dye it red, and play a Slayer, then you’re probably dead!”
Wonder how long it will be before this song hits Rock Band. Place your bets.

GOA doesn’t plan to close any more WAR servers

According to a report from IncGamers, there are no plans close any other EU Warhammer Online servers.
“GOA, European publisher of WAR, has no plans to scale back the WAR servers,” said a spokesperson. “There is an ongoing optimization process that deals with efficient distribution of players between the servers, which is designed to ensure all players get the best possible experience.”
Merging two low population servers into one works, because many quests in WAR require a high level of players to accomplish a task – like sacking a city.
On the flip side, the fate of low populated US server Ostermark is still up in the air at this time.

Analyst: WAR subs to “level off” at 250-300,000
Speaking to Edge, Arvind Bhatia at Stern Agee has predicted that WAR numbers will settle at the 250-300,000 mark once the initial rush of free months’ play is over.
“Over time, subscribers will drop off and level off at 250,000- 300,000,” he said.
“Based on our estimates for sell through, it would require about 20 percent to 25 percent of the purchasers to remain long term subscribers – which we believe is achievable.”
More than 1.5 million copies of the game were shipped to retail last week.
