LucasArts showing “unannounced game in development,” at E3
LucasArts will be showing an “unannounced game in development,” to the press at E3, according to EGM Now. The site asked if the game would contain lightsabers, and the firm wouldn’t confirm or deny anything. It’s been previously announced the studio is using Unreal Engine 3 on a couple titles, one of which is an aerial combat game. Guess we’ll all find out what it is next month.

UK-based Commando Kiwi chosen as Make Something Unreal winner during Gadget Show Live
The winner of Epic Game’s Make Something Unreal contest during Gadget Show Live 2012 has been announced as UK developer Commando Kiwi. The team bested three other groups in the finals and walked away with a full commercial licence for Unreal Engine 3 with its iOS game The Warlock of Firetop Mountain: Lost Chapters. All of the games created based on the Fighting Fantasy titles over the weekend will be released via the App Store in within the next few weeks. Thanks, Eurogamer.

Epic and Applied Research’s Virtual Heroes division launch Unreal Government Network
Epic Games has announced a long-term, multi-platform Unreal Engine 3 reseller and support agreement with Virtual Heroes, a division of Applied Research Associates, Inc. Under this agreement, Virtual Heroes will license UE3 to agencies, departments, and units of the US and allied governments in order to support government developers through the established Unreal Government Network (UGN).

Marvel Heroes to use Unreal Engine 3
Gazillion has licensed Unreal Engine 3 for its upcoming MMO, Marvel Heroes. According to studio director Jeff Lind, the choice of tech comes down to the engine’s flexible actor components, which have enabled “all kinds of customisations”, while other representatives praised the lighting and quick import of pre-existing assets. Epic seems pretty chuffed about it, with licensing manager Joe Kreiner noting the team grew up with Marvel characters. That is all. The MMO has not been dated.

Unreal Engine 3 brings 3D gaming to Flash
Epic’s Tim Sweeney announced during Adobe MAX 2011 today that Unreal Engine 3 now runs inside Flash Player 11. To demonstrate how it works, he demoed Unreal Tournament 3 running in Adobe’s latest update which was released yesterday. This means browser games using UR3 can provide the player with a “real” 3D experience. This will also make it easier to convert browser-based games into apps for mobile devices. The big thing, will be Facebook games: since these are browser-based games, using UR3, you may eventually find that your farm or zoo games will finally start looking more like a PC or console title. September UDK beta adds Mac support
Mac support has been added to the September release of Epic’s Unreal Development Kit, which is a precursor to Mac support in the commercial version of Unreal Engine 3. Other improvements have been added as well. You can view the release notes and download the newer version of UDK through the links.
