Epic demos Unreal running 3D with Gears 2

gearsofwar2a4

Epic's Mark Rein was at E3 this week showing a tech demo of Unreal Engine combined with Trioviz's 3D technology.

The tech demo showed Gears 2 running in full 3D.

Trioviz is what made the 3D version of Batman: Arkham Asylum move into the next dimension last year, but just because Gears was shown in 3D doesn't mean it's being redone in 3D.

"This technology's great because it works on normal HD TVs, as well as the very high end 3DTVs," Rein told CVG during the demonstration.

"We're not planning to re-release this in 3D - unless Microsoft want us to - but I'm sure it's technology our partners [that use Unreal Engine] may be keen to put in [special edition re-releases] of their games."

Sounds pretty neat, and just one more thing Unreal Engine can do, apparently.

Now, if only Mark and the rest can figure out how to make it do our household chores, we'd buy an Unreal license in a flat minute.
