Paragon buy-out fell through at the last minute
Paragon Studios did indeed try to purchase itself from NCSoft, and was shocked when the deal fell through at the lats minute.

City of Heroes spiritual successor The Phoenix Project trailered
City of Heroes was put to bed in November last year, and developer Paragon Studios were laid off. However, players of the game have come together for their love of the concept and have formed an independent studio. Their first title is The Phoenix Project, a spiritual successor to City of Heroes.

City of Heroes players hold Unity Rally on game’s last evening live
City of Heroes, the first superhero MMO which launched in 2004, is no more, as NCSoft shut the game servers down last night at 11.59pm PST. Players held a final Unity Rally on all servers at City Hall as a last goodbye until the lights went out over Paragon City. NCSoft announced in August the MMO would be shuttered along with Paragon Studios due to a “realignment of company focus and publishing support.” Surely the game’s players gave CoH a send off worthy of a superhero last night. City of Heroes adds new missions to Spring Fling line-up
NCSoft has detailed its Spring Fling plans for City of Heroes. On top of the three traditional Spring Fling co-op missions , characters of level 30 or above can take on a quest involving the Red Widow to score the Widow Maker badge, while level 20 and above can access Valentines, which awards players with the Match Maker or Missed Connection badges, and grants one of two temporary abilities, Arrows of Romance and Arrows of Jealousy. The fun kicked off this morning in the US and runs through February 27.

City of Heroes to introduce new loyalty program
Paragon’s announced the 2012 Salute to Statesman Loyalty Program for City of Heroes. The scheme will enable players of the MMO to gain exclusive costume parts, emotes and more by remaining a loyal sub. Those who would like to gain their extras will need to make sure their subscription doesn’t run out between December 1 and March 31.

Loads of stuff happened this week with MMOs. Bethesda laughed off an Elder Scrolls MMO, APB started the Beta application process, Aion released pretty trailers, Star Wars will be playable at GamesCom and all other sorts of interesting things happened.
What we didn’t tell you about was that Lord of the Rings Online got some new jewelry and bounty quests in Esteldin, Funcom will announce Conan stuff at PAX, and there were some rumored leaks on the upcoming WoW expansion posted all over God’s green earth.

Weekly MMO news round-up: CCP files a trademark, Guild Wars class updates, more
Loads of stuff as usual going on this week with MMOs.
CCP has files a trademark fro Dust 514, which strangely enough resembles the EvE Logo, Warhammer’s latest patch is up on the test server, Guild Wars had some more class tweaks, and the summer festivities have been extended for Lord of the Rings Online.
