FFXIII and FFXIII Versus official sites go Live
Square Enix has launched the official websites for its so-anticipated-it-hurts RPGs Final Fantasy XIII and FFXIII Versus.
The Versus site is a little threadbare at present but the main FFXIII site is full to the brim with high resolution images meaning that scans are just a thing of the past.
Looking very good indeed, but then again, it has from day one. Just release it already.
Final Fantasy XIII is out for Xbox 360 and PS3 later this year whilst FFXIII Versus remains a Sony exclusive.
Thanks, PS3F.

FFXIII to feature new style and have no main character
PS3F reports that FFXIII will feature a new style where there is no main character in the game.
The quote is taken from a Famistu interview with game director, Motomu Toriyama.
From the piece:
Toriyama then talks about a “new style” where FFXIII will not have an actual main character. Instead, players will experience the story from the viewpoints of different characters. One of the main focuses of the demo will be to allow players to try out this “new style.” The battle system also allows you to switch characters; it will be party-based and the player will switch between each character during combat.

FFXIII 360 Asian version confirmed
According to this Kotaku story, Microsoft Taiwan head, Grace Chou, announced at the company’s recent gaming exhibition in Taipei that Final Fantasy XIII 360 would retail in Taiwan.
As to which localised version will go on sale is still undecided says Chou, but Kotaku speculates that it could well mean that Japanese 360 owners could now import the game.
Square Enix has said previously that only US and European versions would be released on the console.

FFXIII story “now complete”, says Kitase
In an interview with 1UP, Final Fantasy XIII co-producer Yoshinori Kitase said that the story to the game is complete, with Japanese voice recording about to begin.
“As you mentioned, it definitely helps the localization when you’ve got a finalized story,” he said when asked about how they plan to lessen the gap between Eastern and Western releases.
“Our story is now complete, and we’re just about to start the voice casting and recording. Once that’s complete, we can really get into the localization process.”
There’s also something in there about a FFVII: Advent Children megaton (our words) at DKS3713 in Tokyo on August 2 and 3.

Kim sees FFXIII as key to Japanese development door
In a lengthy interview with 1UP, Microsoft head Shane Kim said that the capture of Final Fantasy XIII should unlock many doors in Japan.
“Well, the Final Fantasy XIII announcement has some beneficial side-effects,” said Kim.
“The more games of this nature, and of the Devil May Crys and Resident Evils, that we secure on 360 opens doors for us in Japan, and gets developers over there interested in the 360, so it’s a step-by-step process.
“Take Capcom for example: they took a chance with us with Dead Rising and Lost Planet, and have had great success, with both of those titles selling over a million units each,” he continued.
“Japan is obviously a very unique market to crack and gain support in, but I think we’re making good headway with what we’ve accomplished on 360 so far, and we’ll continue to surprise you.”

FFXIII: Lightning detailed
In a quick Q&A with Square Enix, IGN has detailed some of the background to the rather fantastic-looking girl in the Final Fantasy XIII trailer.
As previously known, she’s called Lightning: although that isn’t her real name.
“The only one they would go into any detail on is the girl featured prominently in the video. She’s called Lightning, though that isn’t her real name,” says the piece.
“The trailer often shows her alone, which was done to portray one of the major themes in the game. The game doesn’t begin with a large group of people fighting together.
“There’s almost sort of a rejection at the beginning,” said producer Yoshinori Kitase. Lightning refuses to fight alongside others at first and, “then the relationship builds from there. The trailer was crafted to portray that theme and get that message across.”

FFXIII 360 Japanese release still unclear after E3 press conference
Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto has said in a press conference today that Final Fantasy XIII will ship in Japan for PS3 first, as the 360 development process is just beginning. It’s unclear if the game will release for 360 in Japan.
This is all according to Destructiod‘s coverage.
However, IGN is reporting that, “The PS3 and the 360 versions will be released simultaneously in the US and Europe, but not Japan.”
So we’re fucked if we know. Couldn’t someone ask them a yes or no question?
