Matches feature coming to Battlefield 3
EA and DICE have announced the integration of Matches into Battlefield 3. The feature allows players to “coordinate competitive multiplayer sessions with their friends and squad members,” by selecting a time, server, setting, and roster for a “controlled and definitive” environment. Matches will be available on all three formats through the Battlelog, but in order to coordinate, the player must be actively renting a dedicated server. Once a dedicated server has been selected the Match host can set the Match name, start time, game mode, team size, and map rotations. A release date is TBA, but you can find more information through the link.

EA to add more DICE servers to Battlefield 3
EA has denied claims it shut down any official servers hosted by it or DICE, forcing players to play only on rental servers. “DICE is not shutting down servers,” an EA representative told Gamespot. “If DICE-managed servers appear unavailable, it is because they have been rented and customized by players. DICE will continue to add servers and will reserve a percentage of servers for players who prefer to connect through DICE-hosted servers.” Earlier in the week players were complaining that it was almost impossible to find a server to play on that wasn’t rented, and an official server search conducted by VentureBeat found 17 EA run servers, but no servers run by DICE.

DICE servers disappear from Battlefield 3, rental servers take precedence
Many Battlefield 3 players have noticed it’s becoming almost impossible to find EA run servers for the game and DICE-hosted servers have all but disappeared from the game, while rental servers have been placed front and center. According to a report on VentureBeat, a search for official servers found 17 EA run servers, but none run by DICE. Community manager Daniel Matros opened up the forums for player communication on the matter, and after several complaints on the matter replied: “There is only so much physical space and digital space where you can have servers. The community requested [rental servers] and we delivered.” He did, however, say he would mention the community’s concerns to DICE. We’ll keep you updated on the situation as more information becomes available.
