Injustice: Gods Among Us 2 to be unveiled soon, out March 2017 - rumour

Injustice: Gods Among Us 2 is in development at Mortal Kombat house NetherRealm, according to a new report on Gameblog.fr [French]. The site cites a source familiar with the game in saying that an announcement is coming soon, possibly even before E3.

Gods Among Us 2 is said to be in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and is shooting for a March, 2017 release. The sequel will also use Mortal Kombat X's engine, according to the site.

The original Injustice: Gods Among Us came out in April, 2013, and was well-received by players and critics alike. The game was very different from Mortal Kombat 9, the studio's first fighter on Xbox 360 and PS3, in a number of ways.

Gods Among Us did away with a dedicated block button, introduced stage transitions, and allowed fighters to use environmental objects in the fight. This mechanic would later return in Mortal Kombat X, albeit with few changes.

Since the release of Mortal Kombat 9, NetherRealm seems to follow a two-year schedule for its games. A March, 2017 release for Gods Among Us 2 is not at all unlikely, and with E3 just a few days away, we could see Warner Bros. drop a few hints from now until the big show.

E3 2016 takes place June 14-16.
