The "free-to-start" social app allows users to have conversations with friends using Mii characters. It releases on the App Store and Google Play March 31.

Miitomo launched in Japan in March 17 with the My Nintendo rewards program. Within the first three days of availability, the app was downloaded more than 1 million times and became the number one, most downloaded free app in the region.

After downloading the application, users create a Mii character with various appearance customization options including voice and personality. Users can also snap a selfie to create one, or import their Mii from Wii U or Nintendo 3DS using a QR Code.

Once the Mii is ready, users can start adding friends who already use the app or link Miitomo with their personal Facebook or Twitter accounts.

Those interested in Miitomo can preregister when they sign up for a Nintendo Account before March 31 to receive an email when the app is ready to download.

Those who create their Nintendo Account and preregister before March 31 will also receive Platinum Points to spend via the My Nintendo rewards program.
