The full stats are posted over on MCV, and include everything from the top 10 best-selling games on each platform to best-selling publishers. Since it is so in-depth, we're just giving you the short version.

On the consoles sales end, the install base for both PS4 and Xbox One reached 5.5 million, with PS4 selling the most consoles.

Combined, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One physical software sales contributed 75% or £700 million to the final 2015 sales figure. PS4 had the highest software sales, but Xbox One had the largest offering of exclusives games on the chart. There were seven listed in the top 50 compared to Sony's two.

Nintendo had one title in the top 50: Mario Kart 8 on Wii U. Only three new IP hit the chart, and not one exclusive 3DS, PC or Vita game hit the top 50. PS3 and Xbox 360 game sales continued to decline.

In the top 10 best-selling games, FIFA 16 sold the most on both last and current-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. Mario Kart 8 was number one on Wii U and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask HD landed in the top slot for 3DS. The Sims 4 was the number one selling PC game in the UK for 2015.

Overall, there were fewer games and consoles sold in 2015, but accessory sales were up year-over-year with PS4 and Xbox One offerings contributing the most.
