Famitsu review round-up: Dark Souls 2 bags 37/40

Tuesday, 4th March 2014 13:05 GMT By Dave Cook

Famitsu has published its weekly reviews, and as always we’ve collected them here for your convenience.

It’s a short list this week, with From Software’s Dark Souls 2 leading the reviews with a 37/40 score on both PS3 and Xbox 360.

  • Dark Souls II (PS3) – 9/10/9/9 [37/40]
  • Dark Souls II (360) – 9/10/9/9 [37/40]
  • Kuma-Mon Bomber: Puzzle de Kuma-Mon Taisou (3DS) – 7/7/7/7 [28/40]

It’s worth noting that Famitsu gave the original Dark Souls 9/9/9/10 [37/40].

Stay tuned for my final Dark Souls 2 impressions next week.

The game’s out March 11 on PS3 and Xbox 360 in the States, and then March 14 across Europe. For now; you can check out this official unboxing video of Dark Souls 2: Collector’s Edition.

@mike i Don’t understand you. The collectors edition also exist for Pc. Or is it because the pc version is released later that you got angry at Namco?

Yea man, it’s because of the delay for the PC version. :(

And Famitsu’s review score still has no value. :)

Anyone that’s seen Famitsu’s scores over the past decade knows that the only scores they give that have any real substance to them are ones for brand new games or games in obscure franchises. Any game that’s a main entry in a flagship franchise or heavily marketed by a big company is guaranteed to get high scores. The only exception is if the game has such glaringly obvious flaws that to rate it highly would jeopardize any credibility they appear to have to the average person.

But I don’t wanna buy it for my X360, however I don’t wanna wait an unknown amount of time for a probably bad PC port.

Quick addendum (I wish we had an edit button still): I am NOT saying Dark Souls 2 is bad, I haven’t played it, I have no intention of playing it, and unlike a lot of franchises, the Dark Souls franchise is one where gameplay is its core. I’m just stating that Famitsu’s scores don’t really hold much weight given their history.

They sound like the Japanese version of Edge magazine. I knew they were respectable once, in the distant past, but then… so was Edge. Times change.
