Nintendo shares hit three-month high on Friday due to triple game releases

Saturday, 23rd November 2013 19:50 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Nintendo stock climbed 4.2% on Friday morning, November 22, ahead of the simultaneous releases of Super Mario 3D WorldThe Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds and Mario Party: Island Tour .

The share increase represented a three- month high for the firm. According to Reuters, stock was up 3.9% at “13,500 yen by 0152 GMT, with volume at 63% of the full daily average for the past 90 trading days.”

The report states that alongside the game releases, Nintendo also benefited from a softer yen, which was down to a 4-1/2 month low against the dollar.

Nintendo announced this week that Pokémon X & Y sold 2 million units in the US and contributed to a 135% uptick in sales for the 3DS family of systems, making games the fastest Pokémon game in the region to hit 1 million units.

Thanks, Nintendo Life.

    I wonder what’s lined up for 2014?

    Jan : ???
    Feb : DKC Tropical Freeze
    March : ???
    April : Mario Kart 8
    May : Bayonetta 2?
    June: Smash Brothers ?
    July : ???
    August : ???
    Sept : Yoshi Yarn?
    Oct : ???
    Nov : X (monolith) ?
    Dec : ???

That leaves a good few gaps Nintendo can’t rely on third party devs to plug. Watch dogs will fall at the start of next year but after that ???

Congrats Nintendo. You deserve this success.

Just give Mario 64 the same HD treatment as Zelda Wind Waker got recently got on Wii-U and I with many others will throw money at you Ninty. :)

    Make this happen.

Nintendo needs to announced and release a big game outside of Mario this year? LOL, exactly how would they do that?

Games take years to develop, if they had a big game that would come out this year, we would have already known about it.

Mario is fine this year, next year we get a bunch of great games like Mario Kart, DKC, Monolith Soft X, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Smash bros, Bayonetta 2, Watch Dogs, Yarn Yoshi, and the new Zelda for Wii U.

Yes indeed but we need to look the other side of the medal, perhaps those numbers will help Nintendo understand something crucial. There is no sell of hardware or soft if no or too little soft come out; therefore give some love to game development.

I want Sega to port the Yakuza 1 & 2 HD collection to the west, if I’m being perfectly honest. Maybe re-release the Yakuza collection on the Wii U…well, the main titles, anyway.

@1 If the past year+ is any indication, I don’t think we can expect more than one big game per quarter from Nintendo on the U, which leaves a nice juicy gap at the tail end of 2014 for some as-yet-unannounced megaton title.

    Look at their release history:

    Wii(Sports) – Nov/Dec
    Super Mario Galaxy – Nov
    DKCR – Nov/Dec
    Skyward Sword – Nov
    Wii U – Nov
New Super Mario Bros. U – Nov
and now Super Mario 3D World.

They know the importance of the holiday season and try to take advantage of it whenever possible.

There’s no reason to think they won’t do the same in 2014.

There’s also gonna be a lot of digital indie releases to help fill in the gaps between months, but yeah there should be more stuff announced soon for those empty spaces in the schedule.
