Level-5 has announced an all-new fantasy RPG headed to a variety of platforms, starting with a mobile version.
Gematsu reports WonderFlick is described as a “1,000 hour” RPG. Players create their own unique hero and wander the world map fulfilling quests, resting in towns, and dungeon crawling. The game’s title comes from the way flicking is used in combat on the smartphone version. There’s some sort of social or multiplayer element allowing players to form alliances.
The game will have cross-save between its Android, iOS, PlayStation3, PS4, Vita, Wii U and Xbox One versions – but each version will have content exclusive to that platform. Level-5 is calling this corss-platform scheme Uniplay. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will have second-screen functions via smartphones and tablets, while the Wii U will presumably use the Game Pad for such functions.
Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino is personally leading the project. Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu will supply the music, and Nao Ikeda, last seen as one of Final Fantasy 13’s character designers, has been bumped up to lead character designer. Professor Layton and Inazuma Eleven designer Tokuzo Nagano will handle boss monster design.
The smartphone version is due in Japan in November, and will be free-to-play. The console version arrives in 2014. Western release has not been confirmed.
The first of the two videos which follow shows the smartphone version; the second contains a small amount of console footage part way through.
