Outlast has been given a PC release date via Steam.

Here’s the synopsis in case you forgot about it:

“In the remote mountains of Colorado, horrors wait inside Mount Massive Asylum. A long-abandoned home for the mentally ill, recently re-opened by the “research and charity” branch of the transnational Murkoff Corporation, has been operating in strict secrecy… until now.

“Acting on a tip from an inside source, independent journalist Miles Upshur breaks into the facility, and what he discovers walks a terrifying line being science and religion, nature and something else entirely. Once inside, his only hope of escape lies with the terrible truth at the heart of Mount Massive.”

The survival horror game from Red Barrels will land on PC September 4 for $19.99.

A PS4 version is in development and will release next year sometime.

Saw a walkthrough of this (about 10 minutes I think) and it was not half-bad, but one thing turned me off completely. You use a digital camera to be able to see, as most of the game is in the dark (like in REC or Blair Witch project).

The thing is, your battery run low, quite fast. It’s okay as it gives some tension to the game….. except that that you happen to find “camera batteries” absolutely everywhere. In a friggin’ abandoned asylum, left alone for years.
On the demo the character would find camera batteries EVERYWHERE, like in almost every other room. Completely destroys any kind of immersion feeling.

“Outlast made a huge impression during this year’s E3. Powered by Epic’s Unreal Engine (4), this horror title attracted a lot of gamers and journalists the moment it was shown off.”
