Kojima would like an external studio remake the original Metal Gear Solid using the Fox engine

Tuesday, 25th June 2013 17:19 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Hideo Kojima would like an external studio to remake the original Metal Gear Solid using the Fox engine. Speaking in a roundtable interview at E3 2013 attended by GameReactor, Kojima said he is looking for a third-party team to do the work. He said some of the mechanics would need updating, but it would be exciting for him, especially after Silicon Knights’ Gamecube adaption Twin Snakes and HD releases of the original game turned out well. That’s all he really said about it, but you can read more regarding the roundtable through the link.

I hardly call Matrix Snake “turning out well.” The gameplay and soundtrack was fine but backflipping off a missile, taking on three armed guards and backflipping onto a PSG1 to make the shot at Sniper wolf, yeah thats not out of the realm of craziness for Solid Snake.

    Oh please Kojima. Dooo eeeeeet!

Means that he can make another game about Liquid Snake, still the most memorable villain of the series to date, and the most popular.
And Troy Baker’s gonna voice him too!

    @1 I second that notion

    24: The Game.

@3 Other than some of the ridiculous stunts, everything about Twin Snakes was an enormous improvement over the original game. The later games more than lived up to the ludicrousy of TS’s cutscenes anyway.

What we would want as our first choice, but who else can fit the realm of possibility?

Lets keep original as possible, Troy Baker does not need to be Nolan North 2.0 although he does fit Ocelot character well so i wouldn’t mind some actor changes. But one person has to come back for it.

  11. Lengendaryboss

Improvement yes, but the stunts were still out of the realm of Snake’s antics in later games.

Why not? The only MGS title that made a little bit of sense was MGS 1, after that, everything kind of fell apart.

It’s weird that they added that.

So is this confirmed? He said he’s looking for a studio….right? My heart skipped a beat….:(

And please stay as far as possible away from ninja theory….I played and beat DMC on my PC and the game was extremely overated. The MGS saga has always been about deep story telling thru their cinematics and DMC failed at that miserably.

    #14 2 years ago
  15. Ireland Michael

@11 Sure, but its a single notch on an otherwise perfectly fine belt.

I’m not going to condemn a game that is technically superior in basically every single manner because he jumps on a missile.

    #15 2 years ago
  16. Lengendaryboss

Ok fine, not asking you to condemn it, just stating my view thats all.

@14: “The MGS saga has always been about deep story telling thru their cinematics and DMC failed at that miserably.”

… because that was never the goal. I bet Ninja Theory can just as well do 10 hours of cinematics if they wanted to.

    #17 2 years ago
  18. Hunam

The cinematics themselves were very well done in DMC. Sure, he swore like twice. But let’s be real, you didn’t like the change in Dante so DMC was just bad to you.

@1 – Bite your tongue! You might as well have said Double Helix.

    #19 2 years ago
  20. Clupula

@19 – There’s a little thing called gameplay, that was also changed. You might want to look that up.

    #20 2 years ago
  21. Clupula

@15 – That’s a pretty fucking big notch on that belt. The cinemas of The Twin Snakes strip the game of one of the big things that has always been part of the series: Snake is a normal man. He can be up against all sorts of military and supernatural enemies, but he will always just be a man. And having him suddenly become Neo completely ruins the character.

Now, I know that you like to go on and on about how much you hate the storyline of the Metal Gear games and I’m not going to get into that debate with you, because neither of us is going to change the other’s mind.

But even someone who doesn’t like the story should be able to see that that has always been one of the main themes of the series.

  22. Clupula

@14 – DmC was a failure all around. Even if they had managed to actually have a good storyline, the gameplay was dumbed down and that, to me, is the biggest crime against the game, even more so than that awful storyline/redesign. When you take a series renowned for its challenge and you sand away all the rough edges, in order to make it more appealing for people who weren’t fans in the first place while ignoring those people who were, then you should not be lauded for that.

@21 Snake is a clone of a peak human who wears an octo camo battle suit with artificial muscles in one of the 2 games he stars in during the Solid series. Not really your average Joe.

    #23 2 years ago
  24. YoungZer0

    @20: You mean improved.

@21: “Snake is a normal man.”

Superior clones are so normal these days.

@22: I guess that’s what happens if people do know the difference between dumbed-down and streamlined. Oh well.

    #24 2 years ago
  25. Clupula

@24 – My god, you didn’t even beat MGS1, did you?

Snake wasn’t even the superior clone. Liquid was. Ocelot just told Liquid that he was the inferior one.

  26. dizzygear

I wish he would leave that game alone and resume working on Zone of the Enders 3 instead.

    #26 2 years ago
  27. Clupula

@23 – He’s no longer in peak physical condition when he wears the octocam suit. In fact, he’s kinda dying of premature old age at the time and looks like utter shit without the suit. Get it right.

    Don’t be confusing MGS1 & MGS2 Solid Snake with MGS4 Snake.

  28. Fin

Played some MGS2 from the HD Collection recently, christ it’s aged badly.

MGS remake would have to be a proper remake (updated mechanics, design), not a HD version.

    #28 2 years ago
  29. Clupula

@28 – MGS2 has always been the worst of the franchise, imo.

MGS3, on the other hand, is the absolute pinnacle, not just of the series, but of videogames, in general. It is probably as close to a perfect videogame as there has ever been.

I do agree, though, that a new version of MGS1 should definitely have the gameplay of later titles (hopefully of MGS3, so you had to do things like fix wounds and eat and such), as well as PS4/Xbox 180 level graphics.

    #29 2 years ago
  30. OnionPowder

@29 Yes, this man is correct on this in regards to MGS3. Everybody should play MGS3 at least once as it is the pinnacle of video games so far.

Also calling Solid Snake (and in turn Big Boss) just a man is down playing him a little bit. Sure in MGS1/3 they are not affected by nanomachines yet or substantially enhanced past their genetic levels, but their genetic level is probably at the natural peak of what humanity has to offer. Just because Usain Bolt is a man does not mean he is anywhere near a normal man.

But I will agree the cutscenes were fucking stupid.

  31. CyberMarco

Oh please Kojima, please please please! :D

    #31 2 years ago
  32. Clupula

@24 – You can call it “streamlined” all you want. Calling a pile of shit a flower doesn’t make it smell any better.

    #32 2 years ago
  33. penniman

Silicon Knights did a decent job but I don’t want snake riding missles and doing backflips 24/7.. So not them please.. But this is awesome :D .. Funny how they just said MGS and not Metal Gear.. Perhaps they are remaking those ones :D

    #33 2 years ago
  34. Clupula

I will say one thing. I am perfectly cool with them changing Big Boss’ voice to Keifer Sutherland, since he is getting older and his voice should change as time goes on.

But if they do a MGS1 remake, I would not buy it if anyone but David Hayter did the voice of Snake.

    #34 2 years ago
  35. Lengendaryboss

Or it could be in the MGS 5 timeline, you know since young Liquid is there.

    #35 2 years ago
  36. Hellhound30x

at this point in time…. zero fucks given. Give me something concrete. Also no Kiefer Sutherland to voice Solid Snake if this MGS1 remake happens. I hate to hear that whiny bastard talking.
