Amazon no long offering digital edition of SimCity for sale

Though you can still pick up a physical copy of SimCity from Amazon, the online retailer has pulled the digital download from its figurative shelves, in an attempt to prevent more people from paying money for a product they can’t use.

Near the top of the listing page, there is a note: “Many customers are having issues connecting to the “SimCity” servers. EA is actively working to resolve these issues, but at this time we do not know when the issue will be fixed. Please visit https://help.ea.com/en/simcity/simcity for more information.”

In the meantime, Amazon is being barraged with negative reviews for the product, which carries an average user rating of one star right now.

Earlier today, EA began cutting out some of the social features in the game to attempt to lighten the server load.

Because most of them reviewed the game on test, pre-release servers (According to GiantBomb and GameInformer, EA told everyone to review on those servers as if they knew the launch with be such a clusterfuck).

I watched a friend try to play it earlier. Unbelievable.

The first two times it starts it says it needs to update. This takes ages.

Then it restarts a third time. Sits and does nothing for 10 minutes.

Then it finally comes up with a list of servers.

Choose Europe East 1 (they only one labelled “available”)

Wait… wait…

“Could not login due to a network error”

clicking “retry” does nothing. Can only click “Cancel”

Program closes.

€60 for this?

Online requirement, no sale. All those people who bought this thing are lucky if they can use what they paid for at all. If they could go offline, they could at least play it on their own, regardless of the incompetence in the server dept.

I wasn’t able to play at all today. But from what I’ve played so far I really like it. I don’t regret buying the game at all . Just like Diablo 3 at release, shit happens. Everything will get back on track pretty soon I’m sure. And it’s only a game, it’s not the end of the world. I’m sure no one will commit suicide because of this.
