Respawn confirms Jason West departure

Respawn Entertainment boss Vince Zampella has confirmed the retirement of his long-time colleague and co-founder Jason West.

“Jason has left Respawn to take care of some family issues,” Zampella wrote on Respawn’s website.

“We have worked together on some amazing accomplishments over the years, starting with an early Segasoft project that never shipped. It is sad to see things come to an end, but there are times when change is best for growth, both personally and professionally.

“I wish Jason the best and send my best wishes to his family. Respawn continues to amaze me, the team here is resilient and talented. E3 will be therapeutic for us, as we finally get to start showing our work again. I know the team was excited about the response we got from just admitting we were going to attend.”

West and Zampella co-founded Infinity Ward, and led the Activision-owned studio through the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 before being forcibly ejected and setting up shop under the sheltering hand of EA.

Thanks, Kotaku.

Somewhere, on a COD server, people fire their weapons in your honor Jason West. I wish you well.

On CoD 4 and maybe MW2 servers yes. On all the other CoD servers they just fire them because that’s the best that they can do with their lives.

Family issues? How about, “I just won a settlement with Activision where I’ll never need to worry about money again! HELL YEAH! I QUIT! I’m never working again!” ( I am paraphrasing! lol… thats how I imagine it anyways… )
