Friday, 15th February 2013 11:27 GMT By Dave Cook

GameStick creators PlayJam have opened pre-orders for its games console, which earned a staggering 648% of its Kickstarter funding goal earlier this month. It seems a lot of people want the device.

In a release sent to VG247 this morning, PlayJam confirmed that global pre-orders for GameStick were now open over at its official website.

Pre-orders are being powered by Amazon, and will be shipped after Kickstarter funders receive their orders in April. The price remains the same at $79 per unit.

Anthony Johnson, CMO at PlayJam said of the pre-order announcement, “January was a pivotal month for GameStick with the success of the campaign ensuring that we could bring the device to life.”

“Since the campaign closed, we have received thousands of e-mails from individuals keen to ensure they remain one of the first to receive the product. By continuing to offer GameStick on pre-order, we will be able to maintain momentum ahead of our planned retail activity”.

‘Scuse me Dave, but what *is* this? I still couldn’t figure out what games are running on it. And you can hook it up to the TV via HDMI but what makes it portable without screen than?

    Oh,okay got it now:
GameStick is the world’s most portable TV games console.
In designing it, we have created a highly affordable, yet powerful device that brings a world of games directly to the big screen. GameStick plugs directly into a TV’s HDMI slot and comes with a fully featured Bluetooth Game Pad – ready to go right out of the box. When on the move, the two combine into a single unit, putting a world of big screen gaming directly into the pocket.
Access a World of Content. We’ve created what we think is the most simple, intuitive user interface on TV. The GameStick storefront offers access to a range of the most exciting Android games available today. GameStick comes with up to 8GB of storage out of the box with an SD Micro memory expansion slot providing optional additional storage of up to 32GB. (Memory card not included).
Follow the simple instructions supplied to set up your personal account, which will enable you to purchase and download content directly to the device, which can store up to 8GB of content out of the box.
Additional Requirements: You will need a valid credit, debit or pre-paid retail card to purchase and download chargeable content.

Not a fan of this. I do like the look of that controller quite a lot though..Glad they are getting round to shipping it though.

@1 It’s basically like the OUYA, an Android console. And its not “portable” in the sense your thinking off, It’s still a home console. There main focus was getting rid of all the wires and the size of current home consoles. They mean portable as in you can move it around easy. Not as say, a 3DS.
