Wargaming acquires Gas Powered Games

Thursday, 14th February 2013 14:09 GMT By Dave Cook

Gas Powered Games has been snapped up by World of Tanks developer Wargaming in a suprise announcement.

In a note sent to VG247, the developer confirmed it would, “Take full ownership of Gas Powered Games, bringing into its fold a contingent of veteran developers, including CEO and company founder Chris Taylor.”

It follows Gas Powered Games’ failure to get Wildman funded on Kickstarter, and announcement that it was looking elsewhere for help. Things looked bleak for the studio, until today.

“Gas Powered Games’ heritage and development pedigree shows us just how valuable an addition Chris and his company will make to the Wargaming family,” said Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming. “Gas Powered Games has a long track record of providing incredibly engaging AAA gaming experiences and we can’t wait to start working with them.”

CEO of Gas Powered Games Chris Taylor added, “Wargaming growth in recent years has been tremendous, and we’re looking forward to joining one of the fastest growing gaming companies in the world. I’m sure our experience and expertise will help us contribute even more to Wargaming’s global success.”

Yeah that was pretty unexpected. Still, worse companies you could get bought by.

Wargaming are really nice guys. Still don’t particularly agree with the World of Tank financing model but its still going from strength to strength so they are doing something right.

    Good luck to them.

I wish Chris would release a true successor to TA. While supreme commander was great, I miss a modern remake of TA. I know one of the other devs is making Planetary annihilation, but its still not exactly the same from what I have seen so far.

Id just love a new TA, with same building requirements, and the big thing–Downloadable units. I loved getting new units all the time, and that was the reason I loved that game over starcraft/warcraft/C&C, etc.
you could play a game with 4 people all using ARM but because of the official downloadable units, the game styles would be completely different.

If Chris would make a BattleZone 2 like game with TA downloadable units, or a new Dungeon siege/Baldur’s Game style game, id be happy too.
