HMV expected to close 66 stores – report
HMV is expected to announce that it will shutter 66 stores across the UK in the next six weeks. An official statement is to be expected later today.

MCV reports that staff at affected sites have been informed this morning, and that Deloitte is culling the number of HMV stores to make the brand a more attractive proposition for potential buyers.
It comes following rumours that up to 100 stores would be shuttered, which should come as some small relief for those spared the chop.
Hilco UK bought HMV’s debt last month and MCV adds that the company already owns HMV’s Canada stores, which have seen a turnaround since the deal was struck.
We’ll have more as it happens.

Good. The sooner they die the better.
Been a loyal customer for years, bought many consoles and many games from them in the past ten years, not to mention music and films.
Bought a Google Nexus seven from them before Christmas, the thing had failed by new Years, and when I tried to return it they told me in no uncertain terms to go and fuck myself.
Why would I ever buy anything from them again?

@1 930 people will lose their jobs because of this. You want the brand to die? Not very nice on the people being made unemployed is it?
Still, I agree, their pricing was ludicrous.

the Wigan store is affected which means after only a short few years Wigan is without a HMV store yet again. Shame about the people who have lost their jobs but as you all say, they are ripoff merchants. Even their rewards scheme is scandalous. gotta spend about £1000 for a £1 voucher.

@2, I feel bad for those losing their jobs. But, yes, I want the remaining stores to fail now. I won’t ever buy anything from them again, and I would advise others not to either.
