US senator: games more problematic than guns, “affect” people
Tennessee Republican senator Lamar Alexander has said that “video games is a bigger problem than guns, because video games affect people”. He was responding to a question from MSNBC about the possibility of background checks when guns are sold in the US. You can watch the whole segment through the break.
No peer-reviewed study has ever found a causative connection between gaming and violence, but in the wake of tragedies like last year’s Sandy Hook Elementary massacre, violence in entertainment media is often blamed. After meeting with games industry representatives, US vice president Joe Biden put forward a plan to reduce gun crime in the US which made no mention of games at all.
Thanks, Eurogamer.

It’s true you know. You’ll be totally unaffected by a gun until someone shoots you with it.
Of course once someone does, you probably won’t feel very good, but let’s cross that bridge when we get to it. The vast majority of Americans have not been shot. Yet.
That’s positive thinking. I like it.

Yes, Call Of duty is a problem too. I hate 12 year olds on Steam. If republicans or government can help to cancel shitty FPS games from Activision I’m all over it.
Lol, USA…

I love how some Americans try to move the blame of violence from guns to games. Especially when they try to explain it with “common sense” xP But no wonder considering many politicians are funded by gun manufactures thus have a responsebility to defend them no matter how ludicrous it sounds

Yeah that dirty first amendment always getting in the way.
They blamed Judas Priest in the 80′s, movies in the 90′s, countless other things that will “ruin our children” or “corrupting Americans.” Now the target is games.

Congratulations, Americans. You have the right to bear arms but no right to play video games! Well done!
I’m amazed they still let E3 happen considering that is such a mass of crazy unhinged gamers waiting to go off on a murder spree.

That whole debate about guns, games and children in America reminds of this nice little song: We’re From America
