UK Charts: Black Ops 2 holds top, Wii U peaks at 11th

Monday, 3rd December 2012 08:54 GMT By Dave Cook

Wii U may have just come out here in the UK, but it has failed to set the UK charts alight this week. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 holds firm in the crow’s nest, while Far Cry 3 enters at second. Check out our run-down below.

Nintendo’s highest Wii U entry is Nintendo Land at 11th place, surpassing fellow console releases New Super Mario Bros. U and ZombiU. Bear in mind however that it’s a single format, has just come out and is in limited supply.

If the American market is any measure – in which Wii U sold 400,000 units in its first week of launch, we could see the console and its software do big guns when next week’s chart releases on Monday 10th Dec.

Meanwhile Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 holds firm at the top spot, despite analyst claims that the series has entered a sales decline.

Island-hopping shooter Far Cry 3 has debuted at second place, proving that insanity sells. This is despite a slew of Uplay connection issues on PC that disrupted play.

Here’s the top 20 chart in full:

1. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
2. Far Cry 3
3. FIFA 13
4. Hitman Absolution
5. Assassin’s Creed 3
6. Just Dance 4
7. LEGO Lord Of The Rings
8. Halo 4
9. Skylanders Giants
10. Need For Speed Most Wanted
11. Nintendo Land
12. Dishonored
13. Football Manager 2013
14. New Super Mario Bros. U
15. WWE 13
16. Moshi Monsters: Moshling Theme Park
17. ZombiU
18. Medal Of Honor: Warfighter
19. New Super Mario Bros. 2
20. Forza Horizon

Is WiiU really in short supply? Looks like plain hollow hype. Its available at both amazon uk and us and shopto and other sites too. Selling out at some places happens to all consoles.
    Waiting for next week.

@1 not short supply no, but if the US only got 400,000 consoles before selling out, the Uk will get less. Not enough to topple Black Ops 2 or Far Cry 3 off the charts. There’s not enough consoles to generate those numbers.

    @Dave
Check out us sites too. Its not a sell-out as proclaimed by ninty in us too. As I said earlier, selling out at some places means nothing as it happens always. Many shops have wiiu available.
Not saying wiiu games could have toppled top games like fc and cod, that’s why waiting for next week.
Not to mention ninty uk reps were confident of wiiu games breaking into top 10.
Does uk release hardware figures weekly?

I’m not sure if the numbers are “true”. I mean, Nintendo (or any other company) would intentionally put a set amount of consoles available during launch so they can brag about being sold out and making consumers rush to get one, marketing hype!

@4 they would be crazy doing that, the more it is available, the more money they make (if the market is willing to pay for it).

I agree, btw, that is normal that the software for a console that launched less than a week ago is not in the top charts. The consumers already spent a lot for the hardware.

I really wish ZombiU had done better. That is one truly unique and great game in the whole Wii U launch line-up and is sadly overshadowed by cliched Nintendo products like New Super Mario Bros U.

I don’t think it was ever going to trouble Mario and Nintendoland (where presumably the pack-ins are also being counted?). The fact it’s up there at all and only 3 places behind Mario is a good thing.

True. I know it would be crazy for a new IP to outsell a new and 2D Mario game but still…

I just want to root for that game. IMHO, ZombiU is one of the most important games of the year. It is a NEW IP in 2012 as well as the only retail new IP from the launch of Wii U. It is also a REAL Survival Horror game and is probably going to be the only one from a major publisher for some time (Dead Space and RE no longer belong to the Survival Horror genre). Finally, it is a game that actually uses Wii U’s online system for something cool and unique (Even if a bit Dark Souls inspired).

    Playstation All-Star debuts at 38th!!

Holy fuck Sony. Really REALLY well done. You managed to find a way to ruin a game with Kratos, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Big Daddy and MGS Raiden. Seriously, how BADLY can you be at marketing? In the following weeks I have only seen ONE single spot for that game and it was at a random video on GiantBomb.

@9 – that was last week… it’s probably a bit lower than that now :)

    A. My bad. Thank you for the correction.
    B. Sony’s bad. Thanks to them for ruining a perfectly decent game.

Seems to have sold pretty well then, which is surprising considering the piss-weak launch software line-up (ZombiU excluded – really quite enjoyed playing that).
