Limit Theory Kickstarter: space RPG gets funded, takes Elite on at its own game

Tuesday, 27th November 2012 10:00 GMT By Dave Cook

Limit Theory is a similar concept to Elite: Dangerous, industry veteran David Braben’s return to the space trading genre. However, Limit Theory is being made by one man and is already funded. It’s a huge game with procedurally generated galaxies and ships. Elite fans would do well to check this one out too.

The Limit Theory Kickstarter project has just hit $54,983 of its $50,000 goal, and solo developer Josh Parnell has added Mac and Linux support to his list of stretch goals.

Described as an ‘infinite procedural space game’, Limit Theory automatically generates everything you see in the universe in real-time. It’s similar to Braben’s Elite series in that there is no real endpoint or goal, just a vast expanse of space to explore, planets to trade with and other ships to obliterate.

Parnell has composed all of the game’s music, created all of the art assets and coded the whole project himself. It’s impressive given how detailed it looks in action. You can see it for yourself over at the game’s Kickstarter hub.

What do you make of the game? Is it looking ace? Do you prefer the look of this or Elite? Let us know below.
