Tuesday, 20th November 2012 07:02 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Sony has released a major update for the Vita, bringing the portable’s firmware to 2.0 and adding a number of interesting new features and capacities. Perhaps the most important additions are PlayStation Plus and the ability to use the browser mid-game, but check out the full patch notes through the break.

  • Support for PlayStation Plus has been added.
  • [Email] has been added to the home screen.
  • You can now transfer content between the PS Vita system and a PC using Wi-FI.
  • You can now transfer a folder from a PS3 system or a PC to the PS Vita system.
  • [Maps] can now display weather information.
  • The display performance in [Browser] has been significantly improved.
  • The buttons on the PS Vita system can now be used with more applications.
  • In [Settings], you can now set how you will be alerted depending on the notification type.
  • Turkish has been added as a system language.
  • In addition, the usability of many features has been improved.

Thanks, Gematsu.

The new internet browser is awesome. It loads by far faster, you can scroll faster and don’t get this empty grid anymore, you can click on links or scroll without delay even if the site is still loading, the zoom function finnally stays where you zoomed to and now just pixelates a little for a second, it reacts immediately after clicking on a link and the most important improvement: you can switch between game and browser as you want. The only thing is, if you switch back to you game, it doesn’t continue immediately, if the browser is running, but it takes nearly one second to resume, instead of just resuming immediately, as it does without the internetbrowser in background.

I’m really impressed by the new Vita SW System. I’ve never seen a mobile OS running so smooth even when you have alot of apps running simultaniously and where you can swtich between the running tasks so smooth, too. And I think I have never seen a mobile internet browser running so smooth.

One constraint: I didn’t test more than three tabs yet. I will test that later.
