Wii U reviews begin: Mario & Nintendo Land rated

Monday, 5th November 2012 10:26 GMT By Dave Cook

Wii U is out across Europe from November 30th, and the console’s first software reviews have arrived online courtesy of Games Master. Check out the scores and what was said below.

CVG reports that the reviews come from this week’s issue of Games Master.

The issue awards Nintendo Land an 86/100 score and New Super Mario Bros. U an 82/100 – perhaps not the kind of stellar scoring one would expect from flagship console launch titles.

CVG adds that the Nintendo Land review stated it contains “some of the most innovative, raucous and party-fuelling fun we’ve ever had with a console.”

On Mario, the magazine stated that it “bodes well for Mario’s future Wii U outings”.

What’s your take? Let us know below, and be sure to check out our own hands-on impressions with both games here:

Good scores if they’re honest, but maybe pretty low by proper Mario game standards. I’m guessing the beef was “It’s yet another 2D Mario side-scroller with no fresh ideas…”

#1 i agree, lately there has been a lot of 2D mario, of course on multiple consoles, but if a gamer has play them all, or a reviewer for that matter, it is propense to feel that way about it.

But on the other hand is nice to see nintendo land received a good score, iam really interested in this game, so is nice to see a good review about it, this one alongside zombieU, scribelnauts, and lego city are my main interestets on the launch line up.

Probably a little better than a lot of people were expecting for Nintendo Land.

82 may not be up to usual Mario standards, but it’s still a very good score. I don’t know where this idea that games have to score over 90% in order to be worthwhile has come from (not that anyone has claimed that, just sayin’). Other games that have averaged 82 are: Eternal Sonata, Trine, & Mario Kart Wii, to name a few. Loads of great games score in the 80′s. Look at the original Borderlands, it landed right about in between these two scores & it’s one of the best games I’ve ever played.

Anyway, this is exciting, lower than hoped or not. It’s just one source.

It’s a shame the actual reviews are not online. Scores are too arbitrary and biased so I don’t care about them.

#3 If for scores we go, then i would had miss god hand, some reviewers did score it with a 3, in an out of ten scale, therefore scores most of the time doesnt represent the end value of the product, just a personal experience, a one that is rule by the likes and dislikes of an specific person.

Also theres a lot of 6 and 7 games this generation that i find more joy than some 8 , 9 and 10, therefore like i said the score most of the time it doesnt matter.
