StarCraft 2 LAN support not part of Blizzard’s “philosophy”

Wednesday, 22nd August 2012 09:10 GMT By Brenna Hillier

StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm may add a pack of content, but it won’t add one of the RTS’s most requested features: LAN support.

Game balance designer David Kim told PC Gamer that LAN support just doesn’t fit with what Blizzard is trying to achieve.

“We’re building Starcraft 2 as an online game and so from very early on our focus was making a game that people were connected to,” he said.

“We’re building things around the ladder, we’re building achievement systems, so our system is about making an online game.

“It’s really just about our philosophy of how we’re trying to make the game.”

Kim said Blizzard is looking at ways to make localised play easier while still using Battle.net’s infrastructure.

“I think moving forward we’ll be looking at things like ways where people who are nearer each other can find each other more easily. But that’s not necessarily LAN it’s just a way of finding people nearer to you,” he said.

Heart of the Swarm has not been dated.

Blizzard philosophy is to extract as much as possible from stupid and rich customers. And since these idiots don’t have any demands why add more options for them!?

Clearly that’s wrong, as those stupid and rich customers have been demanding LAN support since the game was released.

blizzards philosophy is clear: “hey old fan of ours, fuck you! give us your money and fuck you again.”

Well, if Jay is any indication, then their philosophy is pretty much fuck those losers. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were withholding LAN from their games at this point just to be childish, spoilt brats. Honestly, after that outburst at Brevik, it’s making me realise just how immature they all are.

You have some making very good arguments for LAN support, and the response inside Blizzard most likely amounts to ‘laughing at the nerds’ because despite all their complaints, these people are going to buy Blizzard’s next game, anyway. And people will. I’m just wondering what they’ll take away from their customers next, just to push their buttons for a laugh.

Yes, Blizzard’s ‘philosophy’ indeed. I’m sorry, Blizzard, you have to be intellectually developed enough to have a philosophy regarding anything.

But hey, they make money, right? Who cares what their fans want.

In their own words: “Fuck those losers.”
