Wasteland 2 to include 1980′s prequel

Tuesday, 10th July 2012 14:40 GMT By Stace Harman

Crowd-funded RPG Wasteland 2 will include ageing prequel, Wasteland, Polygon has reported.

inXile founder, Brian Fargo, is offering fans the opportunity to crack-out the rose-tinted spectacles and see if the decades-old RPG, Wasteland, is as good as they remember it to be: a copy of the classic post-apocalyptic RPG will be included with Wasteland 2.

“The #1 request we had during our Kickstarter campaign was to have the ability to play the first game,” Fargo said. “Fortunately EA has continued to support us on this project and has granted us the ability to bring the original to the players.

“It is great to be able to make Wasteland available for those feeling nostalgic or who want to experience it for the first time. It certainly will not be a pre-requisite to understand Wasteland 2, but it adds some extra flavor if you did play the prequel.”

Wasteland 2 is in development thanks to a Kickstarter campaign that raised almost $3 million, the target was $900,000. The game is expected on PC in October and Fargo aims to deliver an intelligent title that avoids the “dumbing down” that he associates with so many modern titles.

I thought that was pretty awesome until the EA part.

Are EA actually giving them the use of the license without any kind of kickback?

That would be a first, no?

*shrugs and shivers* O-Oh!! Soul devouring-attention seeking-backstabbing-spotlight stealing-scheming charlatan publisher arrives on the scene. *doesn’t know what to make of this*

Anyway I didn’t quite understand, did they meant as a remake or just a tweaked perhaps remastered version of the original game? Either way I’m more than happy but just wanted to know this.

@1 This written suspicious all over it.

Are you people slow? EA is helping the ip, which they own. Before this the ip was next to dead, but after dust settles it might be as popular as fallout.

The correct release date for Wasteland 2 is October next year (2013).

@3 Right, so what’s the angle? We all know EA doesn’t care about helping anybody.

They don’t have the rights to Wasteland 3 since Fargo owns the property, so what’s the catch here?

The first Wasteland ain’t a prequel. A prequel is made after the original work, it ain’t an every previous part. The new trilogy of Star Wars is a prequel to the old one. The Hobbit isn’t a prequel to LOTR.
