SCEA not concerned over Wii U headstart, PS4 games “are in development”

Friday, 8th June 2012 08:05 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Sony Worldwide Studios US boss Scott Rhode has said the company isn’t worried over Wii U’s headstart over it in the next-gen stakes.

We’ve been told PS4 is set to arrive by the start of 2014. Nintendo’s previously confirmed Wii U will launch this holiday season.

“Not at all. That’s the simple answer,” when asked of the possibility by Joystiq.

“In very similar fashion to the way I’m talking about game development. We have a very strong vision in what we believe we’re gonna do for the next generation. And we’re not talking about it at all yet.”

Rhode added; “The reality is let’s build a great machine. And we’ll talk about it then.”

In a separate interview with GameTrailers, Rhode confirmed that next-gen titles were being made at Sony.

“We’re not talking about when the machine is coming out, but I think anyone on the planet knows that, of course, games are in development.”

On the lack of a next-gen unveil this year at E3 from Sony, Rhode continued: “It’s just something that we didn’t feel was important to bring up this year.”

I think it depends on a lot of factors. If Wii stay the path of only Mario and Zelda, and so far they seem they are, then Sony and MS have nothing to worry about.

The second big factor is how big the difference in technology is. If the PS4 and X720 are vastly better than the Wii, then Nintendo will not sell many consoles beyond the initial year head start.

all ‘n all it’s too early to tell.

Thats hardly news, we already know Microsoft are working on games for nextgen as well.
How much of a head start will nintendo have since there is no release date, could be delayed till next yr. Maybe Sony and MS plan to reveal their console some other time rather than E3.

The key here will be the kind of approach microsoft and sony will choose for the next gen, if they want the best tech available in the next few years, the price point will be key, a console that costs something between 600$ and 800$ is not realistic with the overall market situation, but if they go with a good powerfull machine and a competitive price point, then the situation will be closer than this gen, as some of the epic comments seems to suggest this is the case, of course this might face another issue with the fight against nintendo, the difference will be not as bigger as this gen, graphically speaking, therefore the biggest card against nintendo will not have the same advantage as before, therefore in my eyes the situation is not as easy as they seem to think IMHO.
p.s And in the Sony´s case they dont have the blue ray troyan horse advantage this time, so it will be a different ball game
