E3 2012: Expert opinion on Sony, Microsoft and EA

Tuesday, 5th June 2012 11:56 GMT By Staff

All but one of the main conferences are in the bag for E3 2012, but what do the headlines mean? Patrick Garratt, Brenna Hillier and Rob Fahey break the news down.

Sony came up wanting for Vita, Microsoft managed to push through for a final year of the current gen and EA did an bang-up job of making “five” appear to be “ten”.

Get full coverage on all the conference here and read what our writers thought about it all below. Nintendo’s confrerence will be the last at 5.00pm BST today, and we’ll have comment from Johnny Minkley once the dust’s settled.

Any chance of an expert opinion on Ubi conference?
While it was as obnoxious and filled with bad moments as every year, I think it had the most controversial AND interesting things.

From TOPLESS scene / nudity shown during major conference to unveiling of really promising Watch Dogs. Also, while most of Rayman Legends stuff had leaked before, it was still mindblowing enough to make me interested in Wii U.
Also, Zombi U is the WORST name ever. Sad that it had such an awesome trailer (Clearly inspired by Dead Island CG).

C’mon Pat, that’s not expert analysis, that’s just the usual rooting for MS despite all evidence to the contrary :) Thought Tom over at EG had some good actual analysis http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-06-05-e3-reaction-microsoft-vs-sony-the-console-war-is-over-for-now

I’ll be sure to provide some actual analysis in future.

I thought Sony and Microsoft were exactly what everyone knew they would be: solid, well-planned, and essentially dull. It’s all about next year.

Heh, I was trying to pull your leg as opposed to just being rude, sorry if that didn’t come accross very well :)

I agree both companies were treading water whilst waiting for next year.

@6: Was most definately canned as far as I recall. Quite amusing, but a lot of games shown at E3 almost never make it.
