S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 development “frozen”, ex-GSC devs form new studio

Veterans from GSC Game World have formed a new studio called Vostock Games, and the first title from the firm, Survarium, is a free-to-play MMOFPS homage to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The firm’s official website noted since S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 development has been “frozen” since December, and since the firm being “unable to secure the IP rights to continue with the Stalker franchise,” it started work on the new title. A Q&A session will be held on Twitter tomorrow with Oleg Yavorsky and Joe Willburn. A video outlining the studio’s plans is below. Thanks, RPS.

So sad… :( It’ll be a miracle if they’ll get back to work on S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2.

Nooooooo! :( I litterly just started playing the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games and I’m loving it. This makes me so sad. I really hope that through some miracle they’ll be able to continue this.

@1 what makes you think that? Just cause it is on PC it can’t make a profit?

No, forget it, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is dead without these guys. I wouldn’t want to play whatever bastardized cash-in came out down the line when that Sergiy guy gets his head out of his ass. This MMOFPS will be S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in everything but name, so that’s what you should be looking forward to. I hope they can pull it off.

I don’t see why this is bad.

Instead of a rehash of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., which would only have benefited nostalgic fans, we now have a creative group of people who’re fed up of being stuck in that cycle actually having moved on to do more interesting and creative things. It’s the cycle of things in this industry, and it continues.

I watched it happen to the film industry, and now I’m watching it happen to the gaming industry. (The television networks are still lagging behind, because they base things on ratings, which is the most ineffectual system ever. It’s this system that told SyFy that wrestling is more popular than Stargate Universe.) But yeah, music had it happen first, then film, and now videogames.

It’s great. It really is.

I can’t wait to see what the new studio works on!

@1

You mean like the original Witcher didn’t make a prof–oh, wait.

Pull your head out of your arse, please.

I got tired of PC elitists in their little delusion-laden circlejerk over at RPS, I fled there so I wouldn’t have to put up with pseudo-intellectuals believing that they know everything about the industry. I didn’t come here to listen to the same thing from console owners like yourself.

Really. Cut it out. It just makes you seem like a prick, and not at all cool.

(Besides, I could always pull the superiorist shit on you ironically just for the fun of it by noting that consoles lack the processing power to handle the AI of S.T.A.L.K.E.R., which we both know is FACTUALLY and OBJECTIVELY true. Let’s not beat around the bullshit bush, thanks. And no, I’m not a fan of the series.)

(Not to mention that a console release would turn S.T.A.L.K.E.R. into a run-and-gun cover-based shooter, with AI running into walls and such. Ho ho ho, et cetera.)

Just give the franchise to a competent developer, seeing as you those people don’t seem to be able to get their shit together.

@Charlie Sheen

Haha what a stupid failed troll. PC games were responsible 55% of all the gaming industry revenue in 2011.

Learn your facts before spilling shit, kid.
