Monday, 23rd January 2012 09:46 GMT By Johnny Cullen

FIFA 12′s stay at the top of the UK charts continues for a fifth straight week, but Rayman Origins finally gets its due credit and enters the top ten.

The utterly fantastic Ubisoft platformer enters at nine, just ahead of Bethesda’s RAGE.

For FIFA, it’s now on its seventh week at the top if you include the two weeks it was there since its launch in October last year. It’s now the highest grossing sports game in the UK ever.

The rest of the top five consists of Skyrim, Just Dance 3, Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3.

Find the top ten for the week ending January 21 below. Last week’s data is here.

  • 2 – The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  • 3 – Just Dance 3
  • 4 – Modern Warfare 3
  • 5 – Battlefield 3

I thin the fact that it has been heavily discounted everywhere, that’s made rayman sell.

So apparently Rayman will sell at £15… just like it would have as an XBLA / PSN game.

Depressing really that both of you are correct.

    Still buy it.

Almost as if the console disc business is completely broken unless you’re one of about six games per year that can do more than 2-3 million units.

If you ask people why they never bought Rayman Origins usually you’ll get one of a few stock answers :

    1. Its a 2D game for full price, so the lack of a dimension has lowered its value somehow.
    2. Its a flash game. No, its not.
    3. Or my favourite which is “Its had less work done on it because theres less to do in a 2D game.”

For its genre, Rayman looks better than anything else on XBLA/PSN. The quality of animation and the sheer number of them just blows everything else away. Maybe its a Ubisoft thing, maybe they should finally come to terms that everyone hates Rayman as a character.

I was a big fan of the very first Rayman game and really liked the demo of this one. Sad fact is that I knew the price would come down quite quickly. The problem is that whilst it is clearly bigger and looks better than the majority of XBLA/PSN titles is it three times bigger and better? Because that was what they were asking of you money wise.

The quality of the better XBLA/PSN titles is very, very good. That is a problem for big releases which don’t offer enough to justify a full price release. They should have launched at a £30 RRP price point in the first place.
