Empire leads Star Wars: The Old Republic PvP, update promised

Thursday, 5th January 2012 02:54 GMT By Brenna Hillier

BioWare has noted tremendous interest in the player versus player offering of Star Wars: The Old Republic, and has big plans to expand it.

Writing on the MMORPG’s blog, PvP design lead Gabe Amatangelo said over one million Warpoint matches were played in The Old Republic’s first week, and that over half of all players had participated. Huttball has been proved the most popular option at 39% of all matches

Empire players have won 53% of all Alderaan Civil War and Voidstar matches, and an in-faction Warzone is planned, allowing you to take on your fellow Republic or Empire players.

BioWare’s planned updates to the PvP side include level 50 bracket Warzones; better open World PvP on Ilum: optomised combat gameplay; ranked Warzone matches; PvP stat T=tracking; open world PvP loot drops; more Warzone medals for different objectives; plus guard and target optimisations.

Additionally, BioWare in investigating the possibility of team versus team play; more level brackets; and choice of warzone.

Thanks, Talkar.

This made me laugh. Option? What option?!!! You cant even select which warzone to play!

And honestly Bioware, too little, too late.

I honestly do HATE not having the option to pick the warzone I want to play.

I’m sick to death of Voidstar and the thought of randomly having to play one or more matches of it before I can get a different map puts me off PvP completely.

The more I play through the smuggler and my Bounty Hunter alt, I really think they should have been neutral factions. I have no idea how you could have pulled it off but half the time my Dark-sided Smuggler might as well be fighting for the Empire considering I do one over on the Republic pretty much every time I get the option.

@GrimRita Are you trolling? Seriously is it too late when the game hasn’t even been out a full month let allow 3 weeks? Lest I remind you WoW’s pvp wasn’t the best at launch, nor was RiFT’s, nor was DoAC, etc….

If you paid attention you would release they overestimated when people would rush to lvl 50 and that was there fault and it’s being corrected now. Geez, some people have zero patience.

I do agree with Viralshag, it does stink that I can’t queue up for specific warzones.

Shadow – Rift had the option to at least select the type of war front you wanted to play in. It had choice, rankings, stats etc – vital stuff missing here.

All I am saying is, this bullshit press release makes it sound like players have all selected to play Huttball(look at our new way of pvp, everyone loves it’) when the truth is, its supposed to be a random pick, since players cant pick which warzone to play in.

You Republic Viral? Its so odd that since the patch over Xmas, the Imperials have had 90% Huttball and the Republic 90% Voidstar.
