Nintendo’s Aonuma confirms new Zelda title in the works for 3DS

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji has confirmed that a new title in the franchise is in development for 3DS.

According to Aonuma it’s not a “direct sequel” to any of the Zelda titles on DS.

“We are already preparing a new game, a game in the series for the Nintendo 3DS, but don’t think that it is a direct sequel to the Zelda titles released on DS,” Aonuma told Portugeuse gaming site MyGames in an interview. “We are talking about a new game, but it takes much of what has been done on previous consoles.”

While fans have been clamoring for a remake of Majora’s Mask on 3DS, Aonuma said it is a possibility, but not something coming in the near future.

“It’s something I’m asked about often and I assure you that it is something I’ve spoken to Miyamoto about,” he said. “But recently we released The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D as a remake. We are considering the idea, but it didn’t seem right to launch a remake one after another, so the next Zelda game on 3DS will be original.”

Thanks, Gemastu.

This is no more shocking than Rockstar announcing Grand Theft Auto 5.
