Batman: Arkham City - Future uncertain for Scarecrow

I know I'm not alone in my love for the Scarecrow, which is why recent comments from Rocksteady are a little unnerving. Speaking on developing Arkham City, the future of Dr. Crane in the upcoming sequel seems uncertain.

Paul Crocker explains that, "In Batman: Arkham Asylum we had the whole Scarecrow thing, and we didn't want to do that again we wanted something different."

So - this could go one of two ways. Either, Scarecrow is being written out of the game, having his role downplayed, or merely lurking about in the background.

The other alternative, the one I'm crossing my fingers for, is that Scarecrow will actually have a more active role. We've seen what he can do with the hallucinogenic Fear Toxin in the original game, surely you can't put him back in the cupboard so soon?

Discussion on this Arkham City fan site has raged for days - be warned though, spoilers are lurking within.
