Report – Australian arm of Visceral Games possibly shutting down next week
A report over on GamePron, citing a tweet from the Melbourne Chapter of International Game Developers’ Association, states that the Melbourne, Australia arm of Visceral Games may be shuttered come Monday. Details on the closure are next to nil at the moment, but according to the tweet: “I’m hearing Visceral are meeting on Monday with HR whether it’s closure then or some redundancies first remains to be seen.” EA owns Visceral, which has studios in Redwood Shores, California and Montreal, Canada as well, and are best-known for Dead Space, Godfather 2, and Dante’s Inferno. EA’s website states the studio was working on new, unannounced triple-A title IP, and when reached for comment from Gamespot, the firm said it does not comment on rumors.

Read the article again this studio hasn’t released any games. SO they have been missing milestones which means they aren’t being productive enough so they get the axe.

@4, More likely that our high Australian dollar is costing EA too much to keep all their staff down here, not sure if our government is offering any tax breaks either. I think our country needs to start following Canada, just look at the industry blooming over there, while THQ are making jobs in Canada, they’re axing them down here.

You know a lot more about Aussie than I do its probably true a lot of elements going on with it. I just know about it from a industry standpoint from my classes in school. I can’t really comment on the political stuff going on.

@4 The Australian branch of Visceral Games was involved in Dead Space 2, if not also the original game in the franchise.
Current rumours suggest that the AAA title that has been in the works for three years was considered to be “unprofitable”, and has now been axed. More news this week, I’d wager.
