Rockstar drops first Max Payne 3 trailer – watch it now
Boom. That’s a megaton boom, baby. All for a trailer.

Rockstar’s released, as promised, the first trailer for Max Payne 3. This comes two-and-a-half years after the game was first announced.
The game’s being made by Rockstar’s Vancouver studio, with help coming across from studios in New England, Toronto and London.
The video details how Max got his new job in Sao Paolo, as well as answering the question of how he went bald.
This is a ruddy great trailer that you can get below. Get watching, gringo.
Max Payne 3 launches next March for PS3, 360 and PC.

If you don’t like it, don’t buy it, shut the fuck up, and stop complaining.
I enjoyed 1 and 2 very VERY much, and I can appreciate what they’re trying to do with the series here (my points in post #11 as to why I’m satisfied with the reveal trailer), keep some old, yet bring in some new. It’s a hard balance for sure.
If they produced a Max Payne 3 that looked more like MP1 and MP2, then people would be complaining that it’s not a full sequel, looks too last gen, and should be a download/digital title for less money. (although a MP1/MP2 HD download bundle would be fucking tits)

Yup. No matter what developers do, a vocal minority will bitch and complain.
Welcome to the internet

I don’t get what all the fuss is about. It looks decent, but it doesn’t go beyond my expectations. Maybe it is so exciting just because it is Max Payne, or more generally, a Rockstar game. Am I missing something?
The story of the earlier games was excellent for a PS2-era action game, but that wasn’t enough for me–the gameplay became a chore after the novelty of diving around in bullet time wore off. I can’t expect the third game to be just like the first two, but it’s difficult being excited when the old games were so shallow from a gameplay perspective.

There’s nothing mindblowing about the trailer beyond the nostalgic reacquaintance, and it does look pretty old.
I don’t think most people had a hard time getting through the old games, and personally I’d welcome some nicely engineered action, without neccesarily trying to take a bunch of writers way beyond their competence. Of course that’s also Rockstars achilles heel. Everything has to be hoity toity social realism these days, and how they managed to sell that as somehow being entertaining or high brow is beyond me.
I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out to be yet another utterly uninspired lullaby. But if they do stay true to the original, then I’m buying the ticket and taking the ride.

I’ve never played the others, but it looks fucking awesome. Nearly everything Rockstar touches is gold, so it should be.

Back when Max Payne came out, practically all third person shooter games involved nothing but dispatching hordes of braindead enemies, with barely any setting. Remedy’s title was at the very least above those. It was also so dark it was almost funny.
Oh and it wasn’t PS2 era, it was end of millenium PC era. PS2 got a terrible port almost a year down the line.
