Microsoft has announced its financial result for Q4 and fiscal year 2011, both of which ended on June 30. The report finds the firm’s Entertainment & Devices Division showing growth for both Q4 and FY11, thanks to sales of Xbox 360, Kinect, and Xbox Live.

EDD shows growth, thanks to Xbox 360
The Entertainment & Devices Division, which includes Xbox 360, reported revenue growth of 29 percent for Q4 and 48 percent growth for the full year, “due to the ongoing momentum of the console, Kinect, and Xbox Live. Xbox 360 has been the top-selling game console in the US over the past twelve months.
Revenue for the division which includes Windows mobile and Zune came in at $1.48 billion, which is up from $1.14 billion year-over-year. EDD revenue increased primarily reflecting higher Xbox 360 platform revenue. Xbox 360 platform revenue grew $293 million or 29 percent, led by higher Xbox Live revenue and increased volumes of Xbox 360 consoles sold.
Microsoft shipped 1.7 million Xbox 360 consoles during Q4FY2011, compared with 1.5 million consoles during the Q4 FY10.
For the full year, EDD revenue increased due to higher Xbox 360 platform revenue, with revenue totally $2.7 billion or 48 percent, led by increased volumes of Xbox 360 consoles, sales of Kinect sensors, and higher Xbox Llive revenue.
Microsoft shipped 13.7 million Xbox 360 consoles during FY11, compared with 10.3 million consoles during FY2010.
Full FY11 and Q4 company results
Microsoft has announced Q4 revenue of $17.37 billion for the quarter ending June 30, which is an 8 percent increase year-over-year. For the fiscal year ending in June, the firm pulled in revenue of $69.94 billion, a 12 percent increase year-over-year.
“A strong year of double-digit increases in revenue and earnings is a real credit to all of our Microsoft employees and partners around the world. We continue to see strong business demand across all of our products, from small businesses all the way up to the largest global enterprises,” said Kevin Turner, COO at Microsoft.
