Report – Xbox 360 successor to be shown at E3 2012 with Timesplitters 4

Tuesday, 14th June 2011 18:38 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

A report has surfaced stating that the successor to Xbox 360 will be shown at E3 next year with Timesplitters 4 as one of its launch titles.

According to a “high-ranking” source within Crytek, VideoGamer reports that the firm is using DirectX 11 in the development. The firm is also, according to the report, hoping Timesplitters 4 will set a visual benchmark for the new Microsoft console.

The source said Microsoft will unveil and launch the new console ahead of Sony, and that Crytek is also investing in PlayStation 4 development.

Timesplitters 4 has presumably been in development with Crytek since its acquisition of Free Radical in 2009, with CryEngine 3 behind the game.

Thanks, Eurogamer.

Finally new fucking system that is 64 bit with Latest RADEON 6th series or 500 series Geforce, not some shit like

256 Mb Ram, geforce 7800 and some overpriced and overrated processor which is used in full potential by 1-2 studios which shows not a lot of improvements compared to less powerfull system.

I can already smell talk like:

    – Hey, have you ever played battlefield 3 on the PC with max settings?
    – Lulz, wat? who gives a s*** about that outdated garbage?

Well, tbh, next years E3 would probably be as dead as a doorknob without a new console being shown.

I hope it has a lot of cloud based functionality and at least a 1TB hdd…

Im more interested in the fact where they said Crytek is interested in playstation 4 development.

Wonder what they will be putting in it?
Sony said they were aiming towards the $250 price point with Vita, so for their home console i think they should be aiming at $300-$350?

So what parts are they going to be able to cram into it and still keep it at that price?

With a new console coming out, maybe MS’s whole E3 won’t be centered around kinect…

i am not sure, that 2012 is good choice. The only suitable CPU for new console would be IBM Power7 CPU, probably with 6 cores at 3.7GHz (the same one that placed in power 710 server), without the multipart stuff (several chips on plate). This CPU is really awesome, but it still new one in 2012 (and it’s a reason why I believe that WiiU would have some Power6 at 2.0 GHz CPU), so it would be overpriced. Also more memory, new videocard, new harddrive == no profit. Such config would be $500-600 at start, and this is a mistake, that Sony already did.

What could be done? Microsoft could chouse x86 (again), but that there is no backward compatibility == fail. Software emulation of Power5 CPU is impossible on any x86 (well, Xenon is simply faster than any of them in therms of flops). Microsoft could chose PowerXCell — Cell upgraded, which is rather unlikely or some Power6. Well… Last option is possible, and not overpriced, but than Sony could wait and made new console on more advanced CPU.

@20 dude, do it for halo 4! :D Plus think of all the titles you will miss out on this year and next! New xbox won’t be around till late 2013 I would imagine so still some worth while life left in the 360.

Plus they are like super cheap now!

Eth you stupid thing, what do you expect from next gen? how many people are going to take advantage of the hard war, maybe 1% ? How many uncharted 2′s level of quality do you see on ps3 or xbox ? You shoud be wishing for more great games with great game design/gameplay from developers who can use up almost 100% of the hardware, before next gen!

Wii U comes out next year. New Xbox won’t be.

It will be first shown at E3 2012, showing off a few things and then E3 2013 will show it off, demo it, show all the 1st release games, along with upcoming games.

2013 holiday season will most likely see the new xbox.

They wont bring it out next year, they are far too concentrated on kinect.

^ Sounds good, albeit when WiiU launches it’ll look old compared to the than new presented Xbox3. Same will happen to Xbox3, when PS4 will be shown. Only they will play in one Ligue.
