Nintendo has sent word that March was rather kind to it in the Pokémon department, what with Black and White versions moving over 1 million units each.
According to the numbers, Pokémon Black moved more than 1.1 million units for the month of March, and Pokémon White moved a little over 1.3 million, per NPD figures handed to Nintendo.
Nintendo said between the sales of Pokémon Black and White combined with 3DS selling just shy of 400,000 units, it was the best-selling March in US history for Nintendo’s portable hardware business.Total sales of the DS hardware line combined were over 460,000 units sold.
“Both Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo DS family had a strong month, indicating that Nintendo has something for everyone,” said Charlie Scibetta, NOA’s senior director of Corporate Communications. “Nintendo provides people with the best video game experiences, from 3D visuals without special glasses to a touch-screen interface to motion controls.”
Will moved over 290,000 for the month, giving Nintendo combined hardware sales of more than 1.1 million for the month.
Nintendo also took the opportunity to mention that it expects Wii Play: Motion, which launches on June 13 complete with Wii Remote Plus controller and 12 new motion-controlled games, to be a hit with consumers, and also noted the following 3DS plans for the coming months:
- A free future system update will provide Nintendo 3DS owners with an Internet browser and access to the Nintendo eShop, which will give folks access to a variety of downloadable software as well as video game trailers, screenshots and related information. The system update also delivers a solution for Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL so they may transfer most of their Nintendo DSiWare games onto a 3DS system.
- Later this summer, Netflix members who own 3DS will be able to access a broadband wireless Internet connection to instantly watch TV episodes and movies streaming from Netflix directly to 3DS. A Netflix unlimited membership is required.
