Magicka hits 200,000 sales mark, more fixes on the way

Paradox’s Mattias Lilja has announced that Magicka sold 200,000 digital copies in its first 17 days on sale, and that in terms of being at the point where issues are nipped in the bud, the team is “close, but not there yet.”

Speaking exclusively with BigDowload, Lilja said Paradox expects the game to be a long seller, and that Arrowhead is still working on improving the game while a separate team within the firm works on extra content.

“Magicka is doing very well, we are really happy with it,” he said. “The affordable price point of Magicka is also a huge factor; how can you say “no” to a gem like this priced at just $9.99?… and we will do our best to keep improving it as well as producing DLC that adds to the experience.

“The basic tech design of Magicka sets some limits to what we can realistically do, but there’s still stuff we can and definitely will improve upon. I am super impressed with how the team responded to the early – and well-founded – criticism; they just put on their robes on and got to work fixing things.

“The release plan includes both free and paid DLC. The Arrowhead team asked if they could be a bit daring when it comes to the DLC and we told them yes. They really did go off the reservation with some stuff… the team is set up in such a way that some guys can keep patching the game while others produce DLC, without getting in the way of each other or stealing resources from one another.”

Paradox will be at GDC next moth, and is planning a surprise that is Magicka related.

    @1 Dream about it.

    I still need fixes that can fix coop. I can’t play with my friends properly. If someone gets pwned by glitch, everybody will be disconnected.

    It’s a real shame that they released this before it was properly finished. I think it could’ve been a cult hit, but currently the only way people hear about it is through a seemingly neverending stream of patches.

    That really should cause a bit of a rethink.
