SCE UK encouraging schools to bring on board game design course

lbp2-c

SCE UK boss Ray Maguire has encouraged that videogame design courses should be presented in schools as a viable career choice.

"There has to be a public and private partnership," Maguire said yesterday at the Learning Without Frontiers conference in London.

"Promote digital content creation as a career choice – it shouldn't be, 'I want to be a doctor or a lawyer,' it should be, 'I want to be game designer."

He also said that Sony itself was "doing work with government" to introduce game design courses in universities, as well as giving teachers Move and PSP kits and "teacher packs" for LittleBigPlanet.

"We shouldn't wait too much longer," added Maguire. "A collaborative effort is absolutely required, it needs endorsement at the highest level, it needs someone in government to say we will do this."
