UK charts: Black Ops denies AC: Brotherhood, Hot Pursuit top spot

Monday, 22nd November 2010 09:54 GMT By Johnny Cullen

Call of Duty: Black Ops has denied both Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit a debut at number one.

The massive-selling Treyarch shooter may have stopped the ACII sequel from Ubisoft Montreal and the racing reboot from Criterion entering at the top, but both still entered into the top three.

Catch the top ten for the week ending November 20 below. Last week’s data is here.

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops (Treyarch, Activision)
  2. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (Ubisoft Montreal, Ubisoft)
  3. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (Criterion Games, EA)
  4. FIFA 11 (EA Sports, EA)
  5. Just Dance 2 (Ubisoft, Ubisoft)
  6. Wii Party (Nintendo, Nintendo)
  7. Wii Sports Resort (Nintendo, Nintendo)
  8. Professor Layton and the Lost Future (Level 5, Nintendo)
  9. Kinect Sports (Rare, Microsoft Game Studios)
  10. New Super Mario Bros. Wii (Nintendo, Nintendo)

Not surprising, what’s surprising however is how Kinect Sports is holding o in the top 10 against such multiplatform beast when it is a single format release!

@2 That’s not hard to believe at all. I mean look at Just Dance 2, Wii Party, Wii Sports Resort, Professor Layton all single platform releases doing well in the all-format charts.

In fact apart from the top 4 all are single platform releases :).

Hmm so there’s a progressive decline for the titles at 4 and 5 means NFS probably did quite low. BLOPS had an 85% decline so it should be 210k based on the 1.4 million sold. They said 63k separates that and brotherhood on chart-track so 147k for Brotherhood.
At a 55-45 split between platforms it means 80850, 79380.
Just Dance 2 is below that in individual formats, followed by Wii Partya and Wii Sports Resort before either NFS comes up.
So individually they’re less than 79k and combined less than 147k. So it must be about the range of 110-80k combined (I’m guessing in the region of 95k) . So that’s not too good for them.

Main difference there is that there’s probably 200k Kinects out there max… and something like 7 million Wiis, 10 million DS etc. ;)

@3 Percentages don’t really matter do they? I mean at the end of the day the actual number does count. I mean we can easily say that 75% of the Rockband 3 day 1 sales are attributed to the 360 but when we count that it’s only 7k that’s sort of irrelevant. Also those titles have been seeing progressive declines week on week.

I’m basing the numbers on what we can tell from the numbers released and percentages (to estimate the numbers). If Just dance 2 is say around 50kish (based on the previous weeks if it had almost no decline). It means that Kinect Sports is around 20k at best. Sports Champions also had similar numbers but it’s been out of the top 10 for a while now. This should see a similar turn.

These numbers aren’t really showing signs of sustainability either. Also shows it’s probably bad for guys like Harmonix with Dance Central sales. It needs a bigger install-base for that to actually matter.

If it goes bad, MS will not be afraid to gimp things out. I mean look at the removal of stat-tracking and closure of website for Halowars and that’s a successful console RTS :/ (still has 6500 players at most given times).

edit: btw I’m not corelating hardware and software sales for kinect. Just saying software sales are quite low which probably isn’t a good indication for the devs. Maybe more do buy it to hack it to run on their OSes and the like?

The top three are all worth the money. All great games, but I think AC: Brotherhood is definitely the best of the bunch.
