Survey: PS2 still most-owned games hardware in Japan

For the Japanese, HD really is something that happened to other people.
A CESA survey, which polled 1,000 members of the public on the last day of TGS this year, has shown that PS2 is still the most owned piece of gaming hardware in the country.
PlayStation 2 is owned more often than any other games console, with 70 percent of those questioned having one at home.
The 10 year-old machine is actually down from its peak of 78 percent from the same survey last year.
Nintendo’s DS came a close second at 68.7 percent, followed by PSP in third at 68.6 percent.
Wii stood at 56.7 percent, PS3 at 47.7 percent and Xbox 360 at 19.6 percent.
The full thing’s here. Thanks, ecchichuu.

All that money, time & effort Microsoft have put into cracking Japan for this? Some shit jrpg’s & 19% of the users? Well fuck em. Concentrate on Europe/North America & use the money saved on creating some new exclusive ip’s.

Yeah, the Japanese know what’s good for them. PS2 > PS3&360.

The PS2 is still a very popular device, do you think EVERYBODY stops using it as soon as sales slow down?

@3 Yes, as soon as a new shiny device is released its your moral duty as a democracy loving capitalist to upgrade ASA-FUCKING-P!! Anything less is a invite for communism!! *salute’s flag*

Wow. Always loving the horribly misreported news from Japan. Makes me glad that so much news stays in Japan. This time you guys can’t even read charts… there’s barely anything to translate other than straight numbers man!
PSP is the most used hardware (out of what you own) at 18.7%. PS3 is 13.7. edit: DS is 19.8 totaled vs PSP 19 totaled. The numbers you guys are looking at refer to OWNERSHIP. Everyone owns PS2 and DS. Makes a lot more sense now, yeah?

This is why I should have started to learn Japanese 20 years ago.
