Kazunori confirms the impossible: GT5 goes gold

gt5

Not out before Christmas? Next year? Bah fooey! Kazunori laughs in your face!

Polyphony boss Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed to Jalopnik that Gran Turismo 5 has finally gone gold. As in pressed on discs and out the door.

This is actually happening, kiddlewinks.

“The discs are being stamped as we speak,” he said, with the site carrying a picture of him at SEMA indicating a stamping motion to show the discs are being pressed.

Earlier this evening, Eurogamer carried a report from several sources saying the racer would not be out in time for 2010.

But yip, this is happening. This is now going to come in 2010 after all.

Still no exact date following last month’s delay, but we’ll email SCEE.

I’ll never understand the hype about this game, IMO Forza 3 has already won that title. But to each his own i guess, and personally i’m more of a arcade racer fan than simulation. No doubt fans of this game will be happy as hell, and they’ll be having lots of fun with this i bet. At the end of the day, that’s what gaming is all about, no? :)

I’m going to laugh my ass off if it doesn’t make Europe this year. And I really wouldn’t be surprised.

@9 Yup, Europe always gets everything last, usually by a good couple months.

@8 I’ve played all three Forzas and have always been disappointed. They always seem to work around out-powering the competition rather than out-driving them.

Having said that, I’ve not played a Tursimo game since GT1 and that followed the same formula ;-)

@8 you can’t tell which won that title since GT5 isn’t out yet to compare.

@9 How’s that possible? The previous release dates between NA and EU had one day difference. That’s what they’re targeting kind of a worldwide release with few days difference between territories.

Thats all? Releasedates is something they really give a fat shit about, I guess.

Someone on another site put an interesting spin on it…

“It will probably be clarified that he meant the blank BRs the game will be printed on are being stamped out now”

:P

I know this has had so many delays etc but too be perfectly honest this is how a game should be created. In their own time, no deadlines, no time limits, no constraints just creating a game to it’s complete full potential.

@23 I have thought about it and came to a conclusion: nay.
Besides: amazon.com lists it december 31. L.O.L.

Edit: somethings gone wrong with my postings … Oh well.

@22 I’m assume you were responding to me :P
Think about it though, if all games got this much attention put into it, they could be twice as long and have so much more gameplay differences so it lasts for years, instead of the all too common new installments every year

…and every other dev would go bust when their game didn’t sell the 12m copies it would take just to break even.

Besides, if you think that GT5 hasn’t had features cut, or things scaled back to meet deadlines then I’d say you’re kidding yourself. The standard cars are a good example.

There’s still the opportunity to die before this game comes.

Not that I am all that impatient given that I’ve been waiting for ICO 3 for way way longer.

@Psychotext
Are your forgetting GT5P sales? That had a couple of million. But then both you and I are speculating, no one other than Sony/PD know the true development cost.

GT4 was…and will remain the greatest racing/sim/ driving game ever. Until GT5 gets released and hopefully builds upon that success.

Note i said hopefully….it certainly didn’t look that way at Eurogamer.
