Game Developers list all-time favorite PS2 games

ps22

In celebration of PS2 turning 10 years old, some high-profile game developers have listed their favorite titles released for the console over the years.

Each one lists three, and it should come as no surprise to see Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and GTA titles making many of the lists.

Luminaries who participated include: Warren Spector, Stig Asmussen, Scott Campbell, David Cage, and Chet Faliszek to name a few.

There’s even some games media on the list as well.

We’ve posted the devs’ top of the list below, and the full thing can be found over on the US PS Blog.

  • Stig Asmussen – Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
  • Cliff Bleszinski – Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
  • Ed Boon – Guitar Hero
  • Scott Campbell – Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
  • David Cage – Ico
  • Alex Evans – Burnout 3: Takedown
  • Chet Faliszek – Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
  • Nate Fox – God of War
  • Tasha Harris – Okami
  • Todd Howard – Grand Theft Auto III
  • Hermen Hulst – God of War
  • David Jaffe – Ico
  • Ken Levine – Dark Cloud 2
  • Ted Price – SSX
  • Tim Schafer – Katamari Damacy
  • Warren Spector – Ico

My three are:

God of War/God of War 2 (toss up)
Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

That was really hard to come up with, too.

I’m quite surprised to see Jaffe bring up Way of the Samurai, just shows that he’s one of the few who are able to think out of the box.

@6 Onimusha 3? what you been smokin bro? After 1+2, which I freakin adored, 3 was stale and they ruined a plot which up until that point had been incredible.

@12, darn tootin, I wish they’d done another game with Jubei in the lead.

Can we wipe 3 and Dawn of Dreams from history and have a new game with Samonosuke and Jubei in some sort of epic Genma ass-whooping tag-team?

I’d go with…

1) Shadow of the Colossus
2) GTA: San Andreas
3) MGS3

Pretty original, I know, I know.

Superb. I just wish Japanese devs had commented here as well (Specially Hideki Kamiya and Suda 51).
