Morhaime: WoW: Cataclysm to be downloadable

Friday, 22nd October 2010 19:25 GMT By Joe Anderson

Morhaime’s just announce Cataclysm will be downloadable from December 7, the first time a WoW expansion will be available to buy and download before release.

Gamers will be able to download all of the content on the game DVD ahead of the game’s launch, or they can just take the traditional route and go for the DVD.

“For the first time, you will be able to pre-order the expansion directly from Blizzard,” Morhaime announced.

“All of the content on the game DVD can be downloaded in advance and you can start playing the moment we turn the servers on, which will be at midnight Pacific Standard Time on December 7th.”

BlizzCon 2010 is live right now, with both Justin and Nathan blogging live from the event for VG247.

It’s not the first time it’s ever been downloadable. It’s just the first time you’ve been able to buy online it *before* release.

In reality, it’s just an activation code that you can buy online, as all the data is downloadable for every user, whether they have the expansions or not.

Yeah, I bought the first expansion online a couple of days after release.
